The DNC was loudly criticized for putting its thumb om the scale in favor of Hillary in 2016. As revealed by Wikileaks, here is what a staffer wrote in a private internal email about Bernie Sanders to other DNC staffers in May of that primary season:
"It might may (sic) no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist."
Remember, the above was a private, internal email within the DNC staff. The emailer's suggestion was never acted upon. Bernie ended up doing very well, gaining ground in those primaries. Bernie Sanders won West Virginia 18 delegates to Hillary's 11. Hillary won Kentucky 28 to 27. The emails were not revealed by Wikileaks until July of that year.
Now contrast that to what Ronna McDaniel's said publicly on FOX News last night after the first primary.
“I’m looking at the math and the path going forward, and I don’t see it for Nikki Haley. I think she’s run a great campaign,” McDaniel went on.
“There is a message that’s coming out from the voters, which is very clear: We need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump.”
In 2016, feigning sympathy for the Bernie Bros, Trump pitched Sanders’ disillusioned supporters as their ally against a "rigged" system. Trump said in a rally in Winston-Salem, N.C. “The system’s rigged and she was rigging the system for Hillary.”
