House Republicans have chosen Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., as their nominee for speaker after huddling behind closed doors for over two hours on Wednesday.

GOP lawmakers voted via secret ballot for who they will put up as speaker in a House floor vote, which will likely come sometime this week.

pb had declared that Jordan would have been a terrible Speaker. Still, he thinks Scalise is a step down from McCarthy.

Wow, HtS, if you think Scalise is a step down from McCarthy, Scalise must really suck.

I think Steve is a step up from McCarthy, in that I think he has the ability to be more honest. And i think he has more respect from the dims. We'll see.

Republicans deserve their reputation as being incapable of "doing government".

House speakership stalled as Scalise announces he’s withdrawing from the race
The Louisiana Republican, who serves as the House majority leader, announced at a conference meeting Thursday evening that he was pulling out of the battle to become speaker. The announcement came after a day full of lengthy meetings with fellow Republicans that several described as unproductive.

Actually, this is how government works. We have a hundred people in the caucus. One hundred different opinions. Not goosestepping little germans. 99% of these people will have to compromise (I know that's not a word in leftist ideology). This sloppiness is how things should get done. Otherwise you have a dictatorship. People just stupidly nodding their heads in approval.

The dims remind me of Richard Gere in "Chicago" just pulling on puppet strings and Renée Zellweger just saying what she wants him to say and does what he wants her to. All with a blank look on her face.

    Precisely.

Curt...TACITLY, baha baha baha... celebrates the fact that the Dems are subservient locksteppin fascists. That ain't what life in this republic was supposed to be...

...but, then, Curt's a subservient lockstepper.
