(Monmouth, Monday, June 21, 2021) More Americans say voter disenfranchisement (50%) is a major problem in the United States than say the same about voter fraud (37%).

Democrats (64%) are more likely than either Republicans (43%) or independents (42%) to see disenfranchisement as being a major problem. Republicans (64%) are more likely than independents (41%) – and both groups are much more likely than Democrats (10%) – to see voter fraud as a major problem. Nine years ago, the overall number of registered voters who considered voter fraud to be a major problem (36%) was similar to the current results, although those who said it was not a problem at all was slightly lower (20%) than it is today (29%). Concern about voter fraud being a major problem has increased among Republicans since 2012 (from 51%) while it has declined by the same amount among Democrats (from 23%).

I am going on the record and predicting that the Republicans' voter suppression efforts will work against them. There is nothing like having a right denied or an attempted or perceived denial to make people appreciate and enthusiastically exercise that right. Consider the uptick in gun sales whenever there is even a vague Second Amendment threat.

I don't know anyone who is trying to suppress votes.

I know that many Americans are interested in assuring the integrity of elections.

Maybe you personally don't know any vote suppressors, don't you follow the news?

For example, how is this in support of election integrity and not simply reducing access to the polls thus making it harder and more inconvenient for swing-shift workers and others to vote?

Iowa's Republican controlled legislature and governor passed a bill which gives Iowans 20 days of early voting, down from 29 under current law. Polls close at 8 p.m. for all elections, instead of the current 9 p.m. cutoff for primary and general elections. Republican legislatures have passed similar bills in other states.

You don't have to read the whole thing. You can do quick search for the salient points. You said that you are only familiar with legislation designed to assure the integrity of elections. I am asking you this: How does reducing the number of days to mail-in ballots and reducing the hours at the polling stations improve election integrity?

I didn't ask you about voter suppression. You've already said you don't think that's happening. I asked you how Iowa's new laws which reduce voting time by mail and at the polling stations assure and/or improve election integrity.

I'm not a resident of Iowa. I can't speak to what issues are being addressed.

As a resident of Pennsylvania, I can tell you that the relaxing of mail-in ballot rules created opportunities for the Dems, especially in Philadelphia, to diddle the vote.

As far as tightening the time frame for voting at the polls, it could increase the ability of election officials to restrict opportunities for Dems to cheat...and we are talking about about 20 days of voting.

In either case, Curt, I think that you are employing a real snowflake definition of voter suppression.

I think that actual Jim "Eagle" bahahahaha suppression is offensive to nearly everyone. But this ain't that.
